Joshua Kobak grew up playing piano and delivering newspapers
in Medina, Ohio, a small victorian village south of Cleveland.
At 16, he began to keep a journal and play the guitar, his first song
soon followed.
In high school, he played cover tunes for school dances with
his band Ceolecanth, named after the ancient "living fossil" fish.
When Joshua received a keyboard and sequencer as a graduation gift from his mom
he began seriously writing and arranging music.

When did you decide or discover you wanted to perform?
I think my sophomore year in high school was basically when I decided
that that's what I needed to do, and that was my calling. Before that
I wanted to be a helicopter pilot with the Coast Guard.

After moving to New York City, Joshua formed
The Liilaa Company with
Katy Pfaffl and Mickey Fisher. They restaged "The Colors of Love"
for the 1997 New York Fringe Festival,
with Joshua acting, painting and singing in the lead role of Richard.
"The Colors of Love" proved to be one of the most
challenging and educational yet enjoyable experiences for Joshua.
The Liilaa Company has also put on
"Subway Train" a beat poetry musical, and "Collective Creative Minds"
a cabaret of self-sufficient artists from CCM.
Joshua was last seen with the national tour of "RENT", and often performed his solo work on the road. More creations are in the works from The Liilaa Company. SWIM recently released their debut CD above and beneath.
